CLUB NEWS

1. On June 19, the Board unanimously decided to donate $1500, from our scholarship fund, to our Current Fund with the college. Specifically, the money that the Smith College Club of Long Island contributes each year goes directly into an earmarked fund that assists students from Long Island with expenses such as books, etc.
2. We keep threatening it each year, but it looks like we are not going to be selling pecans next year. You can still buy them via the NYC club, though. We just have fewer sellers and the ones that we have are moving less and less nuts each year, meaning that we're making less money.
3. All fundraising ideas should be sent to us at our temporary email address

UPCOMING EVENTS

At our recent Board Meeting (11/6/99), we set a tentative calendar for the rest of the 1999-2000 year:

~ We will be having yet another "Friday Afternoon Tea on Sunday." Joanne Murphy had graciously opened up her home for this annual event, but she and her family have moved to England, so we will soon line up another location. The Tea will take place on either January 16, January 23 or February 6. As soon as we have all the details, we'll let you know. There will be a mailing, but the info will be here first.

~ One new event that we've been discussing involves us, as a club, rolling up our sleeves and volunteering for a good cause, such as a local soup kitchen, etc. Again, as soon as we put together some definite plans, we'll pass them right along to you.

~ For our Annual Meeting, we are working on bringing down a speaker from the college. As soon as we match up our interests with available speakers, we'll let you know the who-what-when-where. Right now, we're targeting one of the following Sundays for the Annual Meeting: April 9, April 30 or May 7.
